Soul Food

January 21 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

A once a month Sunday devotional program/live musical performance/cookout lunch with different live musical performers. Devotionals include writings from many different faiths and leaders of thoughts. The theme for this month is “A Gateway to Happiness” and will explore the principle that true happiness for the individual and humanity comes from following the paths of justice, kindness, and concern for others as expressed in the Divine Teachings.  Our performer this month is Neena Roe.  Neena is a singer-songwriter who was born to Iranian refugee-immigrants on Detroit’s east side. Much like her upbringing, her music is full of dualities — melodic, indie-inspired ballads are punctuated with the R&B & alternative influences of her childhood. Her sound may invoke names like Billie Eilish, Alicia Keys, and Phoebe Bridgers, but as a Middle Eastern woman making indie pop, Roe’s story is unlike any you’ve heard before. Why does she tell it through music? Her answer is simple: “It’s the best way I know how to make the world better.”
